Background Rainbow Centre initiated the Parent Training & Education Programme in 1993 in response to the need to help parents of children on our long waiting lists. These parents need information and hands-on skills to help them cope with their special needs child at home while the child in waiting for admission into one of Rainbow Centre's schools. Programmes The Parent Training Department conducts on-going individualized or group training workshops for parents to provide them with a good foundation to help them from acceptance of their child's special needs to empowering them with coping strategies to train and teach their child at home. Parents also benefit from the opportunities to meet other parents, thus enabling them to provide and receive emotional support to and from one another. Parents are encouraged to register for the programme as soon as their child is registered with Rainbow Centre.
Introduced in 2000, the Family & Marital Therapy Services (FMTS) aim to provide family counseling and therapy services to families with children with special needs. The FMTS Department sees cases of family members suffering from depressions, suicidal tendencies and marital problems as a result of having a child with special needs. Referrals can be made directly to the Family & Marital Therapist by completing the Referral Form. |
