[WSG]: Aqua Therapy for Persons with Disabilities

Home » Activities » [WSG]: Aqua Therapy for Persons with Disabilities

This 4-day training on hydrotherapy is designed to provide hands-on experience in skilled aquatic treatment of children with cognitive and physical disabilities. Each day of training comprises a classroom session in the morning followed by a pool lab session in the afternoon.

The first two days will focus on transitioning therapy pool into a sensory and motor planning room. Extrapolated from the 16-treatment station concept, therapists will harness the use of common everyday items to create a sensory effect and to achieve a functional motor response. Each exercise and activity will be examined from the perspective of all the senses: vestibular, tactile, proprioceptive, visual and auditory. The latest aquatic research will be explored and analysed.

The next two days demonstrate advanced skills in bringing aquatics to the child, adolescent and adult with cerebral palsy, developmental delays, Osteogenesis Imperfecta, muscular dystrophy or other medically fragile or profoundly involved conditions. Findings from published literature on the benefits of aquatics will also be examined.

Participants who complete the training will receive certifications from Aquatic Therapy University for

  • Aquatic Sensory & Motor Integration for the Pediatric Therapist.
  • Aquatic therapy options for Cerebral Palsy, Developmental Disabilities and the Medically Fragile
