Art is an integral part of the education programme at Rainbow Centre. It is part of the classroom curriculum for every student, including those in both the Early Intervention (up to 6 years old) and Special Education (up to 18 years old) programmes. SPED students can also opt for visual arts as a co-curriculum activity. Those who progress to show vocational potential in art are invited to join the Artability programme for dedicated coaching and training.
Art is generous to all its learners. Through art, many of our students have been observed to acquire and develop stronger motor skills (e.g. by controlling a paint brush), social skills (e.g. by collaborating with others), organisational skills (e.g. by planning the steps needed to create an artwork), discipline (e.g. by meeting deadlines), and confidence.
Students who are not accustomed to expressing themselves verbally may find a voice through art to tell their story. It also gives their caregivers, educators and supporters some insight into what matters to them, and how they interpret the world around them.
Here is a showcase of artworks by some of our talented students.
